Dr. Mottern earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Louisville, in Louisville, KY. He completed his residency at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Ft. Eisenhower, GA, followed by a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction with Towson Orthopaedic Associates at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, and an international AO Adult Reconstruction fellowship in Munich, Germany. After retiring from the US Army with over 21 years of active-duty service, including time as a Special Forces Medic (Green Beret) and multiple combat deployments, Dr. Mottern moved to Greenwood, SC. His military career culminated as Chief of Adult Reconstruction and Orthopaedic Surgery at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Dr. Mottern is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
